Sustainable Finance &
Climate Risk Event

Mastering climate risk management, ESG data and reporting

New regulations, the risk of biodiversity loss; the transition presents the financial industry with both huge challenges and risks, as opportunities. Meanwhile, the sustainability transition needs to be accelerated, and the financial sector is the key player to dictate the speed. Current economic and social crises create an urgency to intensify our efforts towards a sustainable financial system. There is still a long way to go if we want to meet the objectives of the European Green Deal.

Opening: Long term considerations in Sustainable Finance

Bas Haring

Philosopher Bas Haring shares his reflections on Sustainable Finance and will speak about the essence of sustainability, how should we take into account the quality of life of future people — people who don’t exist yet? He will be reflecting on the added benefits of cold and hard rationality on a soft topic like sustainability and the motivation to care for the topic.

  • Long term considerations in Sustainable Finance
  • Rationality: Sustainability as a soft and warm topic versus the hardness and coldness of rationality
  • Motivation for the topic

The importance of sustainability dividends for the Johan Cruyff Arena: a case study

Kelly Ruigrok Willem Hegen

In recent years, sustainability has become more than a management ambition at the JCA. It has become a non-negotiable requirement to keep stakeholders happy. As one of the world’s leading sports and entertainment venues, the JCA deals with a wide group of stakeholders, including: shareholders, financiers, governments, regulators, sports clubs, international artists and of course its hundreds of thousands of visitors.

To support its sustainability strategy, the JCA uses GSES not only to measure the sustainability performance of its own organization and its suppliers but also at events such as concerts (Coldplay) and sporting events (football games of Ajax and international matches). This combination has proven to be so successful that GSES and JCA have created a new public standard for measuring the sustainability performance of entertainment venues and events worldwide.
